Muse - Time is Running Out

I was at Planet Hollywood on Friday night. It was my first attempt at drinking without the purpose of celebrating someone’s birthday. I am not a drinker, I couldn’t even finish a glass of beer. But yesterday, I was raring to go anywhere with liquor and babes. Sad to say it didn’t turn out the way I wanted. We ended in Planet because we didn’t know our way in KL. 5 fucking years in KL and we’re still like headless chickens finding our way.

At the entrance we were greeted by 2 liquor babes. One of them happened to be Cherry, who used to work in Zoo Body Art. I couldn’t recall her name or where did I see her before then, but as she walked past I saw the cherries tattoo on her neck, and almost immediately I turned down and saw another tattoo on her left leg. Sweet, she was Cherry alright, who I last saw in Zoo when I went for my touch up from Spec Ung years ago. No I did not go and talk to her, I should have. I could have learned a few things about chatting girls up. And she was tempting in that skimpy liquor babe dress.

Moving on, we ordered a bottle of Jim Beam, paid the RM300 for it and made our way down. We were set to get drown in liqour and at least have our eyes feasted with babes who aren’t feng tao-ing. But I like said, it didn’t turn out the way we wanted. An event which I think is wise not to talk about it in here.

We only finished a quarter of Jim Beam, the mood to party and drink just weren’t there. But at 2am, The Big Band stepped up and saved the night, at least for me. I pitied my other 3 batangs who weren’t into English bands cover English rock songs. The Big Band found a new vocalist after Xara went to join M-Idol. Or was it in their cards to change vocalist every new season?

So anyways, they covered a few good sing-along tunes. I Will Survive, Sunday Morning, couple of Black Eyes Pea, a Peter Pan song which the crowd adored, etc. They then moved on to heavier tunes. Seether with Remedy, Muse with Time is Running Out, and Nirvana with Smells Like Teen Spirit were among the ones I remembered. They ended with Blind, by KoRn. So jamming session like. It reminded me of the times I went to see my friends jammed in SS15. I’ve seen The Big Band performed couple times over the years, and this was not their best of nights. Nor was ours.

The night out ended without our aims fulfilled. We felt cheated by the crowd, by the hopes and dreams hours before. But we couldn’t blame ourselves. We went to the wrong scene with our wrong purpose. But at least there’s a three-quarter Jim Beam waiting for us at Planet for a next time.

And on a brighter side, I was impressed by The Big Band covered Muse’s Time is Running Out. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the song being played on local radios. To play it on a commercial filled crowd is daring. And to that, I’m putting the song up for download.

I tried to give you up
But I’m addicted

Time is Running Out
by Muse
from Absolution (2003)

I think I’m drowning
Asphyxiated
I wanna break this spell
That you’ve created

You’re something beautiful
A contradiction
I wanna play the game
I want the friction

You will be the death of me
You will be the death of me

Bury it
I won’t let you bury it
I won’t let you smother it
I won’t let you murder it

Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can’t push it underground
You can’t stop it screaming out

I wanted freedom
Bound and restricted
I tried to give you up
But I’m addicted

Now that you know
I’m trapped sense of elation
You’d never dream of
Breaking this fixation

You will squeeze the life out of me

Bury it
I won’t let you bury it
I won’t let you smother it
I won’t let you murder it

Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can’t push it underground
You can’t stop it screaming out

How did it come to this?
…..

You will suck the life out of me

Bury it
I won’t let you bury it
I won’t let you smother it
I won’t let you murder it

Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can’t push it underground
You can’t stop it screaming out

How did it come to this?
…..

  1. [...] This may be a so-last-year number, but I only gotten to know of its real existence when The Big Band covered it at Planet Hollywood few weeks ago. Let’s face it, I am never a fan of local Malay music except for a track or two. I can’t even name you a track by Siti Nurhaliza, our so called homegrown diva. [...]
