Lismore - 1979

Lismore is the musical equivalent of hallucinogens. This three piece electronica band from New Jersey gets creative and eclectic with sounds, putting their listeners on a substance-less acid trip. Their cover of the Smashing Pumpkin’s song 1979 is a must listen. — from FreeIndie.Com

I don’t usually dig electronica, but anything Smashing Pumpkins-related are exceptions. After all, the Pumpkins had gone all electronica once, and pretty good at it (sue me, I’m bias :D), and had a whole industrial/electronica tribute album to them. So I don’t see how Lismore could do any harm. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Smashing Pumpkins’ Stars and Stripes (and the SP heart)

Filed Under (Smashing Pumpkins) by Joe Chung on 24-10-2006

My beloved Smashing Pumpkins have gone all stars and stripes (or Jalur Germilang if you like), except it’s in black and white with the signature SP heart logo. I don’t know what it all means, but it’s great to know there’s a change, even if it’s rather a small one. Which means somebody, somewhere is working on it. Which also means the Pumpkins are really working on something.

Smashing Pumpkins

And I got this on my Google alert:

We recently finished up working with Roy Thomas Baker, (Queen, The Cars!), Working with RTB was not only an honor, but also one of the best musical experiences we have ever had. We are currently working with Terry Date (Pantera, Soundgarden!) and that is going great as well. The universe has a way of letting you know that things are right by introducing people like RTB and Terry into the fold. — Jimmy Chamberlin

Queen, The Cars, Pantera, Soundgarden. Gosh, big names. Good things are coming, I hope.

Ben Folds - supersunnyspeedgraphic

Filed Under (Stereo) by Joe Chung on 22-10-2006

Ben Folds‘ new LP supersunnyspeedgraphic is due 24th October, 2006. But knowing the state of our local radio stations, I doubt he’ll get any airplays over at this shore. But fret not ‘cos you can stream the whole album here (official preview release by mtvU.com’s The Leak), or here from theSuburbs.org.uk.

The two links are the same, but the Suburbs’ has an extra editted track of Bitches’ Ain’t Shit (cover of Dr. Dre). I have the uncensored version, but I’m waiting for the new server to be ready before putting anything up.

Enjoy the stream.

Listen to supersunnyspeedgraphic at:

P/S: I am still awed by this.

The Darkness - Love is Only a Feeling

Not much of The Darkness listener, but I do take a liking to this jiwang-ish track. The end is nigh for this British band, as Justin “I’m better than Bono” Hawkins have just left the band. Uh, right. Who cares.

Lily Allen - Everybody’s Changing

Filed Under (Cover, Lyrics, MP3) by Joe Chung on 09-10-2006

I have a thing for female artists with guitar. They remind me of someone really special, so special that I feel myself simply not good enough. I rejoiced the moments when she picked up the guitar and played in front of me, even though I know inside her, she was playing for someone else. I was just an audience, a fan, a male groupie.

When I heard of this cover, I thought of her instantly. I imagined her playing it, putting on that beautiful sunshine smile she always has, strumming, singing, so adsorbed into what she enjoys; playing music.

But that’s all gone now. Just like the song title says, everbody’s changing. All I have left are memories to sleep on.
