“Is everyone afraid? Has everyone changed?,” Corgan sings on opener “Doomsday Clock,” a big, loud rocker in the vein of Geek U.S.A. from Siamese Dream.

I still remember when the Pumpkins were about to release Machina back in 2000, the media compared it to Gish, the whole back-to-roots thingie. When it was finally released, they tanked it for not living up to hype. Bastards.
Personally, I don’t think the Pumpkins need another Gish or even Siamese Dreams. Both the albums are irreplaceable. And frankly, the Pumpkins can never go back to their glory days of selling millions of albums and topping the charts, not when today’s charts are covered with artists that feature other artists (just take a look at Billboard’s chart, 6 out of 10 of them have artists featuring artists, it’s a trend).
All I hope for is a good rocking album.

wjhat about greenday. they are living the glory days now.
hi joe,
looks like i’m behind on sp news, tks for the listings. the titles sound promising and hints of greatness as always until we listen to it.
anyhow, i think sp w a guy bassist would’ve been weird and surely freaked everybody out even with just the thought of it. somehow i guess they’ve created the whole image/persona that works with a female bassist.
albums (and songs) only mean as much as the time/phase of our lives when we listen to it, so i’m sure no two persons would have the same emotions/meanings associated to an album, also it’s the era that the album was released in, sd in 93 was a standout but if released today would’ve sounded out of time and place.
