This song (the original Sigur Ros’ version) has been rotating heavily on my list of late. (I tend to really repeat songs that I’m into for the moment). Yes yes, old track. But I’ve said it before, music have no expiry date.

Anyhoo, here’s a decent attempt by the goofy Scientists (linked from á la discothèque).

And here’s the video, by Sigur Ros.

Typical We Are Scientists fun. The track is getting into me.

We Are Scientists - Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt (Acoustic)

A trip down not-so-distant memory lane. Was stucked in the slight jam this morning and this band came rock-danced on my car stereo on random. Instantly reminded me of the tiny (but awesome fun) gig these guys came over to perform couple years ago.

So yeah anyhow, We Are Scientists are coming out with a new album, Brain Thrust Mastery, this March — minus the jungle-beard drummer, Michael Tapper, who left the band “in order to pursue other things.” What does that ever mean when people say that?

Maybe this video provoked him to quit. I mean, he’s a mean drummer and all, but he looked really, really bored in this acoustic. But it’s not a bad version of the song. I like it.

New single “After Hours” will be premiered in the UK tonight (or tomorrow early morning here with the time difference). Hopefully someone can get a leak on that.

If you wanna use my body … go … for … it … yeahhh.

We Are Scientists

I am not much of a concert-goer. I mean I like watching rock concert videos and all and wished big that I was there (especially if it was a Pumpkins’ concert), but I never actually been to many. I was there for the first ever Rock The World series in 1 Utama open carpark. I think that was my first real rock concert. I’ve been to a few underground gigs when LyMe was still around. Those were the college days. Of course there was Incubus in 2004, one hell of a great experience.

Then there was We Are Scientists last Wednesday (9/8). Not quite the big gig I had expected, but it was good nonetheless. Come to think of it, it was nicer this way. Small but with lots of space and close to the stage.

I managed to get a friend to go the last minute, though he had to cut his working day short. We got there way too early and was told the free-ticket-collecting booth wasn’t even set up. Dammit I was told to get the tix BEFORE 7pm. I should have known better with the Malaysian timing.

The show didn’t start until 9.30pm (Malaysian timing again). The Deserters opened the night, a so-so emo act. Could use a better vocal and less of the “thank you very much indeed” after every song. Their half-hour or so timeslot was justified.

WAS came on stage to a lukewarm cheer. But they took no time to get things started, which was good after all the waiting earlier. WAS played for an hour with no encore despite cries from the crowd. I guess they ran out of songs to play or was told to get in, play for an hour, and get out. I don’t know which was the better excuse.

I think they pretty much covered their debut album and a couple of new tracks and a cover, Be My Baby, to the crowd at the dancefloor’s much delight because WAS’ pinup Keith Murray jumped off the stage to the mobbing crowd. Get the set list and a few pictures here.

Overall it was a good show. I enjoyed the music. The crowd was okay. The long wait is not. Thanks to Upfront for bringing them here for a short stop. And to the 1+1=2 pretty ladies waving across the road, sorry I was shy to go over :)

Sidenote: A little late for this post, I had it drafted but never got to publish until now. Lazy me.

Durian Runtuh

Quoting sweelin, I now too got the “durian runtuh” effect. I received a call in the midst of a meeting this afternoon informing I won two tix for WAS gig. Great, yay, I wanted to sound happy but I was surrounded by big bosses and customers. I resigned to miss the concert out initially because of lack of company, but now I’m giving it a second thought. So whoever was calling from Think Online, sorry I sounded flat on the line. But thanks for the tix!

Now, to cure my durian-damaged head, who wants to go to WAS gig tomorrow (9th August, 2006) with me?

So, the hippiest concert in a long time is just a few days away. But unfortunately I may have to miss it out as time is running short to get someone to go along with.

But hey I’m not here to spoil the fun. In fact I have goodies up for grab. But you shouldn’t really bother because if you have tix to the concert, you should have known all the songs and lyrics from We Are Scientists by now, or at least know how they sound like.

But if you’re still pretty clueless of W.A.S. (shame on you), tune in to umm one of the local English radio station where they repeat every damn song every few hours. Or, you can download 3 of their more known singles from the album With Love and Squalor, directly from here. Now, say “Thank you, Uncle Joe”.
